Procedure:
Rhinoplasty with septal reconstruction.
Patient
Concerns: This 23 year old female complained
of difficulty breathing on the left side of the nasal
passage. This patient had a past history of nasal trauma
and was concerned with the displacement of the nose
to the left.
Dr.
Markus’ Treatment: Preoperatively, the external
nose was displaced to the left and there was asymmetry
of the nasal tip with the left dome more projecting
than the right. During surgery, the breathing space
was opened and the end of the septum was positioned
in the midline. The irregularity (large size) of the
nasal bones was reduced as well as the fullness of the
nose from a profile perspective. The tip was refined
and sculpted. With the open rhinoplasty technique, it
is possible to ‘fine tune’ the tip area
with increase (or decrease) of tip projection and center
the tip appropriately. With sutures and/or the patient’s
own cartilage, the tip can be sculpted resulting in
a very natural look.
Patient Comments: She felt her nose
was nicely modified and appeared unoperated and natural.
She was pleased with the improvement in her breathing.
