Laser skin resurfacing is a very commonly performed
cosmetic treatment, and while the large majority of
these procedures are performed with no complications,
there are some risks. Dr. Markus will gladly answer
any questions you may have and address all of your concerns.
Possible
complications include:
Infection.
Although rare, infections may occur. Laser treatment
can also activate herpes virus infections (“cold
sores”), so it is important to tell Dr. Markus
if you have had them in the past.
Skin
changes. There is a slight risk of scarring
and hyperpigmentary (darkening) or hypopigmentary (lightening)
changes in the treated areas.
All
of these risks are greatly reduced if you follow post-operative
instruction very carefully.
