Your face greets you every morning in the mirror.
In fact, your face greets everyone you meet, but what
is it saying? Years of exposure to sun and wind can
take a toll on your complexion, worrying and other
facial expressions can cause wrinkles, acne can leave
scars, and a trauma or surgery can leave scars.
You can improve those lines, scars, and wrinkles that
have changed the way you look and even feel about yourself.
Using a procedure called laser resurfacing, sometimes
referred to as a “laser peel,” Dr. Norman Markus can
help revitalize your complexion, making it smoother
and more evenly toned. Using the latest laser techniques,
Dr. Norman Markus will renew areas of your face that
have been damaged, smooth out fine wrinkles and uneven
pigmentation, leaving you with a fresh appearance.
Laser Resurfacing. Laser resurfacing
is a commonly performed cosmetic procedure that benefits
men and women of all ages.
During your initial meeting with Dr. Norman Markus,
he will assess your general health and discuss your
specific cosmetic goals. Be prepared with information
regarding previous surgical procedures including cosmetic,
any skin or allergic conditions you may have, medications
you are taking including nutritional supplements, and
any history of acne or facial injuries.
At that meeting you should also be prepared to tell
Dr. Norman Markus if you plan to have any other cosmetic
procedures in the future. Many people choose to have
other facial procedures done at the same time as laser
resurfacing such as a facelift, forehead lift or eyelid
surgery.
Dr. Norman Markus uses a Contour laser, which is the
latest laser technology. With this laser, Dr. Markus
can optimize the treatment to your particular skin
type and condition. In the 1990s, carbon dioxide lasers
were popular and had excellent results, but the resulting
redness could last for six months. Using a Contour
laser, Dr. Norman Markus can achieve the same excellent
results while reducing the redness and healing time
to weeks. The Contour laser allows Dr. Norman Markus
to remove thin layers of skin that will be replaced
by newer, younger skin.
Before your procedure begins, an anesthetic will be
administered and Dr. Norman Markus will place protective
eye shields in or over your eyes. During the procedure,
a beam of laser energy will be delivered using a precisely
controlled scanner. The water in your tissues absorbs
the energy and instantly vaporizes a very small amount
of tissue. The laser will be passed over the area to
be treated until Dr. Norman Markus reaches the level
that will make the imperfection less visible.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, the
entire procedure can take just a few minutes. If the
wrinkles or scars are deep, they may require additional
treatments at a later date.
