All surgery involves risks. Although the risks are uncommon,
you need to be aware of them. Dr. Markus will be happy
to answer any questions you may have or address any
of your concerns.
Some
possible complications with facelift surgery include:
Hematoma.
In some cases, blood may accumulate under the skin
that may need to be drained by Dr. Markus. Hematomas
are more frequent in men and patients with high blood
pressure.
Infection.
In some cases, patients develop infections that can
be easily treated with antibiotics. If left untreated,
severe infection may cause reduced circulation and conspicuous
scarring.
Incision
Opening. Hematoma or a severe infection can cause
the incision to open and if left untreated can result
in severely diminished circulation and loss of skin.
(This complication is more frequent in smokers.)
Facial
Weakness or Paralysis. In rare cases, facial muscles
may become weak or paralyzed on one or both sides of
the face or in a specific area. In most cases this complication
is temporary and function returns within six months.
Numbness.
In most cases, normal sensation returns after three
to four months. In rare cases, patients may experience
hypersensitivity or unusual sensations.
