We've all heard the expression that your eyes are
the windows to your soul, but what do people see when
they look at your eyes? If your eyelids droop or are
puffy, you can look tired after a good night's sleep
or even angry when you're happy. Eyelid surgery or
blepharoplasty can make your eyes more accurately reflect
how you feel by making you appear more rested and alert.
Eyelid surgery will remove excess skin and fat, giving
you a brighter appearance that can really make your
eyes smile.
Eyelid Surgery. Blepharoplasty may
be performed in a variety of ways; how Dr. Norman Markus
performs your eyelid surgery will depend on your features
and your desired results.
Upper Eyelids
The goals for upper eyelid blepharoplasty includes
taking out the heaviness, making eyes appear more open,
and establishing a crease. Patients with drooping brows
will get the best results from combining their eyelid
blepharoplasty surgery with a brow lift.
Dr. Norman Markus begins by making an incision within
the natural crease of the inside corner of the eyelid
to just beyond the outside corner. He will then remove
any excess fatty tissue and skin. Because the eyelid
incision follows the contour of your eye, once it heals
it will not be virtually invisible.
Lower Eyelids
Traditionally, the lower eyelid blepharoplasty incision
is hidden below the lower lashes. Through this incision,
Dr. Norman Markus will trim excess skin and contour
and reposition fat so that it flows evenly. If indicated,
fat repositioning can improve the tear trough depression
that is commonly present. In many patients, Dr. Norman
Markus will also insert a permanent stitch to the tendon
at the lateral corner of the eye to ensure that the
lower lid does not pull down unnaturally. In some cases,
Dr. Norman Markus may recommend using laser resurfacing
to smooth out fine wrinkles.
If minimal correction is needed, Dr. Norman Markus
can make an incision inside the lower eyelid to remove
the excess fat.
